Omg! The Best Great Egret Ever!
We got here to the felled space on the south of Juniper Hill, which appears out south towards Hascombe, and my attention was instantly drawn to 2 gleaming white birds flying excessive north. I managed one poor effort (they had been critically high), and only after they'd left did I register that Cattle Egret is still very much a mega in Surrey.
As bonkers as it was, as completely unexpected because it seemed and in a place I'd by no means have guessed, it was Cattle Egret that became the 145th Thorncombe Street area bird, and my 130th! Off the highest of my head this is about the tenth Great Egret for The Swannery though there have been a couple of 'unconfirmed reports'.

It will even stand still and anticipate prey to strategy or use its feet to stir backside sediments, which might startle prey into motion.
Whatever the long run holds though, April ninth 2017 will all the time remind me which you can never lose religion with the patch. When sporting its breeding plumage, the great egret has lengthy, lacy plumes on its again and a neon-inexperienced patch on its face. My adoration for my patch was reaffirmed, and maybe these two Egrets were a near a chapter here.
If a distinction needs to be made between the American and Eurasian types then American Great Egret and Eurasian Great Egret works superb (as does African Great Egret and Eastern Great Egret for the opposite two forms). Yes, sure - they're great at defending cities from the barbarian horde, however maybe civilization is too highly rated anyway.
There are brief toes on the bottom of the leg pointing left and proper. It didn't take long to determine there were Egrets, and the slightly jerky flight and dumpy appearance strongly urged Cattle. There wasn't a great deal of birdsong, and as we weaved by means of the deciduous a part of the wooden I pondered the chance of a Pied Flycatcher here later in the spring.
Now most British birders check with the species as Great White Egret of course but for as soon as I want the 'official' IOU standardised English title of Great Egret. It may be Americanised (in America the species is named Great Egret) but the word 'white' just seems superfluous.
Differences between species included lower wing-beat frequencies by Great Egrets. The great egret is considered one of the largest egret species found on the earth. Today the IUCN lists the Great Egret as a species of "Least Concern". Also seen had been 5 Great White Egret , three Great Bittern , 3 Western Marsh Harrier , 2 Common Cuckoo and some Garden Warbler . Post w as generated by GS A Content Gene rator DE MO!
